Here is a non-exhaustive list of my core cast of characters. You can click on a character to read a little more about them! (Last updated 2/21/2025)
A friendly, easygoing, and only-occasionally-oblivious Aesungaian woman with a passion for fucking around and doing nothing. She is a master chef, avid reader, gifted musician and skilled polearm wielder. She wants to be an optimist, and tries — sometimes way too hard — to uplift and reassure everyone around her. On the inside, she's freaking out just as much as everyone else, if not more.
Caelle was born with flame magic, but a combination of genetic factors resulted in her magic being extremely potent and difficult to control. As a result, she avoided using it for a very long time, fearing she would hurt herself or the people she loved.
When she was very young, Caelle lost her left arm in an accident. Vae, her childhood friend, made her a new arm. It was very rough and crude, but Caelle deeply appreciated the gesture. When Caelle outgrew the first arm, Vae made another, and another, each prosthetic more advanced and well-crafted than the last. Eventually, Vae discovered a method of channeling magic energy through the prosthetic that would allow the wearer to actually control its movement. Quickly evolving from primitive wooden sculptures into incredible feats of magic and engineering, these prostheses eventually surpassed the capabilities of even Caelle's dominant arm in strength and dexterity. She is not above challenging you to an arm wrestling match and using the prosthetic.
Her full name is actually Caelehastra, but only her parents ever called her that, and only when they were really angry.
You may occasionally see me draw Caelle with silver hair instead of blonde hair. This is because she [REDACTED]
A quiet and intimidating Aesungaian woman whose origins are a mystery even to her. She excels at making things, and is an accomplished mechanic, engineer, blacksmith, and leatherworker. A frightening opponent in battle, she is adept at using a wide variety of weapons, and also happens to wield one of the most violent and dangerous forms of magic in recorded history.
Most who are born with magic inside them are able to wield that magic in the form of air, water, fire, or earth. Vae, however, was born with the ability to wield darkness, a variety of magic so rare that most aren't aware it exists, and the ones who are believe it to be only a fairy tale.
Vae spent the majority of her childhood alone in the wilderness, without family or friends. Her earliest memories are of hunting and scavenging for food, cowering in ruins and caves, and attacking everyone and everything that she saw out of fear. She has no memory of ever having parents or a home. On the rare occasion that she spent any amount of time around other people in the surrounding villages, it was to dig through their trash, hunt their livestock, or hide in their cellars. Most who encountered Vae treated her like a monster, frightened by her dark magic and her wild, sometimes violent behavior. Many even believed her to be some kind of demon. Feared by everyone she met, Vae spent her life in isolation. Then, she met Caelle.
Vae and Caelle first met when they were both still children. Vae had climbed through Caelle's kitchen window in the middle of the night, looking for something to eat and a place to hide from the rain. Awakened by the sound, Caelle went downstairs to investigate, and found Vae digging through the cupboards. Upon being discovered, Vae ran off immediately, but Caelle left some food out on the windowsill for her. The two of them met again several times after that, either out in the wilderness by chance or on rainy nights when Vae needed to go somewhere she knew she'd be safe. Vae and Caelle slowly became friends, despite Vae's apprehension, despite the fact that she didn't even really know what friendship was, and despite the fact that she hadn't spoken a single word to Caelle, and would continue not speaking for many years.
Eventually, Caelle's parents decided to offer to take Vae in, and let her stay with them permanently. When Vae was gone again the next morning, Caelle and her parents assumed it was Vae's way of declining their offer. But, before long, she was back again, moving her things into the room they'd set aside for her. She never stayed for very long, and would sometimes disappear for months or even years at a time, but she always came back eventually, and, before she knew it, Vae had a home.
Vae took an intense interest in human technology and machines at a very young age. She would tinker for hours every day, experimenting with what few pieces of human machinery she could get her hands on and learning how they worked all on her own. She became one of the earliest pioneers of the practice of combining magic and machinery.
Her hair isn't dyed -- it grows like that. More red streaks come in as she ages.
An anxious and timid young human. He is extremely knowledgeable -- especially for his age -- on the subject of medicine. An extreme introvert, he has spent most of his life at home reading books, and avoids social situations like his life depends on it. He struggles to hold conversations and to make eye contact.
When he’s not reading, Isaac likes to draw, but only as a hobby; he doesn’t take it all that seriously. His dream had always been to follow in his parents’ footsteps and become a doctor, and he spent most of his life studying to be one, but as time went on, he became less and less certain that it was what he really wanted.
As a child, Isaac was terrified of leaving the house. He was born in a crowded city, and every time he went outside he found himself surrounded by strangers all the time. Everywhere he looked, there were people he didn't know, and his mind would race, imagining all of the sinister things these people could be planning to do. It all proved to be too much for him, and his anxiety became so extreme that his parents eventually decided to move because of it, hoping that if they relocated to a quiet, small town, then their son might be able to go outside without breaking down into tears. So, around the time Isaac turned six, he and his parents moved out into a small town at the edge of the country, his parents claiming that they were moving for the sake of their jobs. The move helped Isaac's anxiety, but not as much as his parents had hoped. He never managed to make a single friend until he was an adult.
A studious and creative Tugaalian woman. She is an expert on ancient history, particularly on the subject of ancient magic. She writes fantasy stories for fun, and is a little bit of a hoarder.
Shen has spent most of her life collecting magic artifacts -- digging around in ancient ruins, regularly visiting pawn shops, and negotiating with other collectors in order to obtain any magic-imbued objects she could get her hands on. of particular interest to her were artifacts with the ability to change her body. She spent nearly a century searching, collecting, and experimenting with these artifacts until she was finally able to grant herself a body she felt at home in. After achieving this goal, Shen began lending out and giving away her artifacts to others who were seeking to change their bodies. Her dream is to one day open up something like a library for these kinds of magic artifacts, so that she can more easily help others like her, hoping to make their journeys easier and shorter than hers was.
Years of helping her brother and father maintain the village fishing boats has left her with a lot of nautical knowledge, as well as a decent understanding of the inner workings of boilers, engines, and the like.
Shen is very organized, and has a specific method of doing most things. She is very particular about how her spaces are laid out and how things are arranged, as well as the order of her routines. Her insistence on doing things in a particular way can make it difficult for her to work with others.
Shen was born with air magic, but uses it very rarely. She mostly just uses it to dust things, or, on occasion, retrieve small objects that are just out of reach.
In addition to magic artifacts and old books, Shen also collects stuffed toys. Her bed-to-plushes ratio is becoming dire.
A strong, kind, and charismatic Tugaalian woman. She's very extroverted, and is able to befriend just about anyone, no matter their personality. Despite her gentle nature and calm demeanor, she is a formidable opponent in battle, and is able to wield unbelievably-heavy weapons. She is Cosmo's older sister and a long-time friend of Hae'lia.
Vivian's water magic makes her excellent at fishing, but when she's not in a hurry she likes to fish without her magic, preferring to relax and take her time. Her magic also comes in handy whenever something needs cleaning, and, of course, in battle.
Vivian has spent well over a century defending her village in Kae Tugaal from monster attacks. Her secret, aside from her raw strength and lifetime of experience, is that she fills her gargantuan weapons with tiny pockets of water. This allows her to swing these weapons using her magic and her muscles in unison, packing an incredible amount of power into every blow.
The scars on her face are from a battle with a niyashyu, an eight-legged monster with long hair and very sharp claws. The injury left her partially blind in her left eye. The niyashyu's fate was much worse.
Vivian can be incredibly persuasive, and has a reputation for being able to talk her way out of any situation. This reputation is not unearned, but it is somewhat misleading. She's not a manipulator, and isn't even particularly argumentative, except when absolutely necessary. Instead, she's simply very good at helping people talk through their problems.
Vivian has a human name because her parents were both very fond of human culture. Vivian always found this decision a bit strange, but honestly doesn't mind the name. Sometimes her friends call her Vivi.
A cold and pragmatic Aesungaian woman. Her decisiveness and level-headedness often cause others to look to her as a leader, but she doesn't enjoy leading, and whenever she has to lead she does so with extreme reluctance. She's a seasoned blacksmith, and used to be really into gardening, but doesn't do it much anymore.
Hae'lia's magic element is earth. With earth being one of the rarer forms of magic, this means that everyone comes to her for help every time a building needs building or a field needs tilling or a rockslide needs clearing. She doesn't mind, and is always happy to help out.
Hae'lia used to have the nicest garden around, thanks to her earth magic, and, more importantly, the help of her wife Sumiri, whose green thumb and encyclopedic horticultural knowledge kept the crops flourishing year-round.
The scar on Hae'lia's face was the result of a blacksmithing accident that happened when she was young. She made a mistake, wasn't wearing any protective equipment, and wound up with several shards of hot metal flying directly at her face. She was incredibly lucky to survive, and never again forgot to wear her goggles.
Hae'lia is an experienced pilot, and has spent thousands of hours steering ships of both sea and sky. She and Sumiri used to make regular trips across the sea to visit their friends in Kae Tugaal. On one of these trips, Sumiri died in a tragic accident. After that, Hae'lia stopped traveling completely.
Her full name is Haeshinalia, but she finds this name tedious and usually shortens it to just Hae'lia. Sumiri used to call her Haeshi. Now, nobody does.
A cool and confident human woman. Card game enthusiast and master criminal.
Better known by her alias "Stitches", Priscilla is one of the most wanted criminals in the kingdom of Luchtef. With the help of her partner-in-crime Cecil (known better by the alias "Wolf"), she causes trouble for king and his soldiers at every turn, stealing their weapons and supplies, sabotaging their vehicles and equipment, and even burglarizing the royal palace. She passes on the majority of the stolen riches to those most negatively impacted by the king's tyranny.
Priscilla grew up on the streets as a homeless orphan. Cecil, also a homeless orphan, met Priscilla by chance, and the two of them decided they should stick together. The two children worked together to lie, cheat, and steal their way to a better life.
Priscilla is obnoxiously good at card games and bar games, and will probably challenge you to one if the opportunity arises. If she invites you to make a wager, it is usually in your best interest to decline. If you offer to buy her a drink, she will order the most expensive thing on the menu.
A laid-back Tugaalian man who always looks a little bit like he just woke up. He is a culinary expert and loves to make people laugh. He is Vivian's younger brother, and a proud father of a little family of potted plants in the kitchen.
Cosmo has loved to cook ever since he was young, and spent thousands upon thousands of hours cooking with his parents. He sometimes cooks for fun, even when he isn't hungry. There's always plenty of leftovers in the icebox.
Cosmo can be a bit pretentious when it comes to alcohol, but he mixes the best cocktails you've ever tasted. He also mixes the worst cocktails you've ever tasted. (He does a lot of experimenting.)
Cosmo was born with air magic, but almost never uses it. This is partially because he isn't very good at it, and partially because he has little use for it.
Like Vivian, Cosmo was given a human name because their parents were very fond of human culture. Unlike 'Vivian', 'Cosmo' sounds close enough to a Tugaalian name that nobody really questions it.
A kind and energetic Tugaalian man. Outdoorsy type. Cosmo's husband.
Dulaen has spent most of his life outdoors, hiking and camping for fun whenever he wasn't fishing or farming or hauling things around the shipyard for work. When he began dating Cosmo -- who is very fond of never leaving the house -- Dulaen began spending more time indoors, and Cosmo began spending more time outdoors. Dulaen thinks this mutual broadening of horizons was good for both of them. Cosmo agrees, but that hasn't stopped him from complaining whenever he has to go outside.
Dulaen was born with water magic, but his magic isn't particularly strong, so he doesn't use it often.
Extremely extroverted and extremely protective and supportive of the people he cares about, Dulaen has a reputation for being one of the most helpful and dependable friends anyone could ask for. His compulsion to be everyone's friend and solve everyone's problems is sometimes seen as overbearing and annoying, and has also led to people taking advantage of his kindness on several occasions. He doesn't let this stop him from helping out.
A bratty, arrogant human woman who has lived most of her life in luxury and comfort thanks to her immense inherited wealth. Regardless of her self-important attitude and overbearing personality, her friends describe her as kind. They also describe her as "eccentric", and "a bit much".
Claire's father was an extremely successful businessman, and her mother an extremely successful businesswoman. The profits from the couple's two companies made them incredibly rich, and they lived their lives in extreme excess and decadence. They gave Claire everything she ever asked for, and never told her no. By the time Claire's parents grew old and died, they had accumulated so much wealth that Claire, who inherited everything, became one of the richest people in the kingdom of Luchtef, second only to the king himself.
Always having everything she ever wanted made Claire deeply unhappy, and after her parents died, she sold their companies and spent many, many years holed up in her mansion, bored and miserable, slowly burning away a hoard of money she could never hope to spend in her lifetime, no matter how many mansions and airships and cars she bought. Her wealth, which had always been so plentiful that it was basically worthless to her, slowly became something that she actively resented.
When the Luchtefian army invaded Aesungaia, Claire decided to do everything in her power to rescue the Aesungaian refugees, helping them escape capture, providing them with food, shelter, and supplies, and even helping them build an army to fight back against the king. She lost most of her wealth in the process, funding an entire rebellion almost single-handedly. Many hold her in extremely high regard for this, calling her actions righteous and selfless. Claire firmly denies all allegations of selflessness and righteousness, claiming that using her power to help people who desperately needed it was "the bare minimum", and that giving away something that was worthless to her could not be called selflessness.
Claire is extremely fond of cars and airships, and began collecting both at a very young age. She enjoys driving and piloting them herself. She also has an intense interest in fashion and clothing, and collects a wide variety of clothing -- even clothing that won't fit her, and that she never intends on wearing. She likes to give away pieces of her collection to her friends, and enjoys dressing other people up. She often cuts her friends' hair and does their makeup for them as well.
A relaxed, confident human man better known by the alias "Wolf". Priscilla's partner in crime.
An orphan who grew up on the streets, Cecil spent most of his childhood on his own. When he met Priscilla, who was also an orphan, he decided to take her under his wing, at the time playing it off as a cool and selfless thing he was doing out of the goodness of his heart. In reality, he was mostly just desperate for a friend.n
Cecil likes to make people laugh, but all of his jokes are really lame. He came to accept groans as just another kind of laughter, and grew into an absolute menace, leaning into it and constantly tormenting everyone with bad jokes.
Despite being a criminal mastermind, he's actually rather docile, and lets everyone else take charge whenever he's working in a group. His life's philosophy is "I'm just along for the ride".
He picked the name "Wolf" as a kid because he thought it was cool, and because he thought his real name was embarrassing. Then, as a young adult, he thought both of his names were embarrassing. As he grew older, though, he eventually came to accept them both.
Goddess of Light of the Aesungaian Continent. Described in ancient tomes as a lazy, self-centered, hedonistic woman, but nonetheless an incredibly gracious host.
Worshiped by many, Repaemina was reportedly once the most popular god on the Aesungaian continent. People would travel from all around the world to visit Repaemina in her palace, where she and her worshipers would celebrate together, day and night. These parties are often described as an endless celebration of life itself -- an eternal feast where nobody was ever hungry. A never-ending orgy where everyone was welcome, and no one was ever alone or unsafe. It's said that nobody in Repaemina's palace was ever sober unless they wanted to be, including the goddess herself.
Though she is undeniably a goddess of light, accounts of Repaemina actually using light magic are rare, and there is not a single recorded instance of her using it for any practical purpose. On the occasions that she did utilize her light magic, it was strictly for artistic expression, creating intricate, abstract patterns for her intoxicated worshipers to marvel at. More often, the only magic she used was the basic divine magic that all gods posses, though even her divine magic was mostly only used for convenience, comfort, and pleasure.
Repaemina would often describe Zaenumia, the Aesungaian goddess of darkness, as her "sister", though gods do not reproduce or have blood relatives. The exact nature of their relationship is the subject of much scholarly debate, with some sources claiming the two of them truly are sisters in some convoluted way or another, and other sources claiming they're sisters in a more metaphorical or sentimental sense. Other more outlandish claims suggest the two of them aren't sisters at all, but mother and daughter, or bitter exes, or figments of one another's imaginations, or two halves of the same whole that was split into two by some other divine force. Whatever the case, the two goddesses don't seem to have much fondness for one another anymore, if they ever had any in the first place.
Nobody has seen or heard from Repaemina in thousands of years. Aesungaian history and folklore can be difficult to separate, and it is unknown whether she existed at all. Crumbling temples and faded texts are all that remain.
Goddess of Darkness of the Aesungaian Continent. Little is known about her.
What few historical records of Zaenumia exist describe her as scholarly and reclusive, committed to understanding the nature of the universe.
Like all other gods, Zaenumia was worshiped by many. People offered her gifts, prayers, love, and devotion, as they would with any other god, and built a number of temples in her name. Unlike most other gods, however, Zaenumia quickly became uncomfortable with being worshiped. She repeatedly rejected her worshipers' offerings and prayers, and protested the construction of temples devoted to her. When her worshipers refused to stop, she eventually cut off contact with them completely, and disappeared. Her worshipers were devastated, many of them feeling deeply betrayed. As a result, many records of Zaenumia portray her very unkindly.
Zaenumia often reluctantly referred to Repaemina, the Aesungaian goddess of light, as her "sister", though gods do not reproduce or have blood relatives. She reportedly often spoke ill of Repaemina, and said she wanted nothing to do with her. In spite of this, Zaenumia would nonetheless help and defend the goddess of light whenever necessary. The exact nature of their relationship is unknown.
Zaenumia is said to have often been accompanied by a pack of ohn'rae, or "umbrebeasts", the only living species known to possess innate dark magic. Whether she had a fondness for these monsters or whether they were drawn to her because of her intense aura of dark energy is unknown.
Nobody has seen or heard from Zaenumia in thousands of years. Some say she's still hiding away somewhere in some dark sanctuary, performing horrifying experiments. Others theorize she simply disappeared to live out the rest of her immortal life in privacy, away from the unwanted attention of her worshipers. Many say she's just a fairy tale.
That's Myrrh!
She's not from the same story as all my other characters, so her info card is blue.
Interdimensional traveler, but not by choice.
Myrrh grew up in a harsh and chaotic world between dimensions; a sunless, confusing place where all those who fall through the cracks eventually end up. She wound up there when she was very young, spent decades trying to escape, eventually found a way out, and has been trying make her way back to her home dimension ever since. Unfortunately, she can never seem to find her way.
Now, she spends her life drifting from dimension to dimension, hoping that if she keeps hopping in and out of realities, she'll eventually stumble across her home again. Her greatest fear is that she's already passed through her home dimension without realizing it. After all, her memories of home are so distant, and each dimension contains an entire universe. For all she knows, she's made it home a hundred times, but never at the right time or place.
In spite of her circumstances, Myrrh does her best to have fun along the way and find joy wherever she can. Some mistake her attitude for optimism, but actually it's more like hedonism as a survival strategy.
Myrrh is genderfluid, but less in an intentional, introspective, self-identified way and more in a "does not think about this kind of thing" way.
Sometimes Myrrh is a character, and sometime's she's my sona, and I will not specify which is which. Don't think about it too much.
